Accessories Are Taking Centre Stage This Spring

Published

This season, accessories and jewellery are taking centre stage and according to the SS21 catwalks, bigger and brighter is best. Versace and Chanel accessorised their looks with pops of electrifying neon in earrings and necklaces, whilst at Etro and Bottega Veneta, the focus was on beachy getaways with bright beads and shells. Of course, this kind of beaded jewellery goes hand in hand with the revival of the kitsch 00’s trends, so there’s no denying that bright and childhood-reminiscent beads are here to stay.

Whilst there’s an abundance of neon enamel in jewellery to lift your mood, the shoe trend of the year will quite literally lift you. That’s right, we’re talking platforms. Seen on the runways of the Spring/Summer shows, platform sandals are a practical statement; they aren’t hard to walk in like regular heels, meaning you can look stylish without having to compromise on comfort. Alternatively, why not try some clogs, the surprising yet incredibly fashionable SS21 trend that’s taking social media by storm thanks to Hermès.

Of course, this roundup wouldn’t be complete without talking about bags and silk scarves! This year, trendy bags range from the supersized to the super tiny – whether you want an oversized tote to fill to the brim or you simply want something to hold your phone and purse, there’s something out there for you. Perhaps channel your inner Audrey Hepburn with a silk scarf wrapped around your head or neck? It’s stylish and chic – one of our favourite trends from this season.

We are loving the injection of colour that these accessories offer, after a dark winter and a long lockdown, it’s refreshing and uplifting to feel like colour and joy have found a new home within our wardrobes. Accessorising is all about having fun, and this year the rule is that there are none. Go big, go bold, go bright. Do whatever makes you happy!
