The 2000’s Called And Weekday Have Answered

Taking us back to the early 2000s, Swedish brand Weekday have dropped a Y2K21 capsule collection that aims to revive the daringly playful and unapologetically edgy style of the era. Think slouchy silhouettes, deconstructed crops, cut out detailing and your signature rhinestone G-string peeking out of your low-waisted jeans.

Taking sartorial inspiration from Destiny’s Child, club music and the underground dance scene, the limited edition collection establishes the perfect balance between the classic nostalgic and the contemporary modern. In celebration of the old and classic but not being afraid of the new, the collection boasts a mixture of relaxed asymmetric silhouettes, lace patterning and ribbed fabrics that can be interchangeably mixed and matched.

Nikita Lace Cardigan £30 and Paris Jeans £45
Nikita Lace Cardigan £30 and Eve Jeans £57
Tony Shrug £30 and Imagine Top £20

With a focus upon layering and day to night transitional styles, the collection features tank tops, cardigans, bodysuits, shrugs, trench coats and dresses that are both sexy and stylish. As for the colour palette, the brand have opted have for minimal, muted tones splashed with accents of vivid aqua blue that will carry you across seasons.

Doing denim like it’s 1999, the collection also features asymmetric relaxed silhouettes in the form of button detailed jeans, a crop jacket and a midi skirt. Not only does the collection boast a playful yet stylish aesthetic but all the denim pieces are in fact crafted from 100% organic cotton. In line with the brands efforts towards sustainability, the garments use 62% less energy and 71% less water in comparison to the traditional cotton manufacturing process.

“Youth culture is always changing, and we move with it but with a Weekday filter, so over the years we’ve gone from a tight stretch denim look to high waisted jeans and then baggy jeans. This season feels very Y2K with low waists, tighter tops and double layered garments.” - Alice Shulman, Design Responsible Womenswear

The capsule collection is now available online at the official Weekday site, with price points ranging from £20 to £135.
