Sometimes Less Is More: Cut-Out Clothing

Published

Cut-outs – whether they be on the shoulder, across the chest or on the hip – are yet another response to the less-is-more trend which has been so pervasive in recent years. Having made its way into our wardrobes in the form of tight knits and sheer materials, the cut-out trend pays homage to fashion’s newfound love for nakedness without the pressure of feeling too naked. It’s the perfect balance.

Seen on the SS21 runways of brands such as Chanel, Alexander McQueen and Fendi as well as on the backs of Bella Hadid and Dua Lipa, this trend has the designer and It Girl stamp of approval. Not to mention the frenzy that erupted when Dolly Parton received her COVID vaccine in an off the shoulder jumper which promptly inspired social media users to pull their cold-shoulder jumpers out of their drawers in an attempt to channel their inner Dolly.

The trend has a subtle sexiness to it – there is something about clothing that provides a little window to the skin that immediately makes it sensual and glamorous. Plus, cut-out clothing manages to tiptoe the line between daring and classy extremely well, meaning they can be worn for both casual brunches and evening dinners without posing the risk of seeming too over or underdressed.

This peek-a-boo trend is more proof that we are collectively getting more confident in our skin. No doubt a result of our collective boredom with comfy lockdown fits, at FROW we are excited to explore slightly more daring clothing options and lean into sexier, skin bearing fits. The trend allows you to partake whilst feeling comfortable and confident in your outfit.

From cut-out side dresses to asymmetric sleeves, we have an array of options so there’s bound to be something you’ll love.
