Monday night in New York City saw The Council of Fashion Designers of America come together to celebrate the winners and honourees of the 2022 CFDA Fashion Awards, in Partnership with Amazon Fashion.

Manhattan’s Casa Cipriani welcomed actress and host, Natasha Lyonne, alongside CFDA members and co-hosts members Joseph Altuzarra, Gabriela Hearst, Aurora James, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough – marking the organisation’s 60th anniversary.

With many stars in attendance, from the likes of Lori Harvey, Ashley Graham, and Christine Quinn to Paloma Elsesser, Precious Lee, Drake and the Kardashian-Jenners, guests took to their seats after gracing the carpet for the winning announcements of the many awards up for grabs.

Law Roach, the first ever CFDA Stylist Honoree, took to the carpet in an Oscar de la Renta floor-length monochrome, polka dot coverall – completed with a pastel pink lining and complemented by a matching decorative flower. Staying in tune with the coordinating outfits, Keke Palmer arrived in a blue and green floral Carolina Herrera ballgown paired with matching print knee-high boots.

After awarding Roach, actress Kerry Washington said: “Having inclusivity is important in every industry but in fashion it’s necessary, it always has been. So to be here tonight to present this award to Law means everything to me, because he is a trailblazer and an innovator, and he really lifts our community up as he walks towards excellence every single day.”

I’m the first but I won’t be the last person to receive this award that looks like me and I think that’s what’s important.

Julia Fox turned heads in a daring underwear-exposing black gown from Milan-based designer Valerievi, which debuted a large midriff cut-out, paired with a high-neck and draped train. Also sporting a fearless cut-out, Khloe Kardashian wowed in a sculpted bronze LaQuan Smith metallic gown.

Just touching on the many awards that were won, the American Womenswear Designer of the Year was given to Catherine Holstein of KHAITE, whilst the American Menswear Designer of the Year was successfully awarded to Emily Adams Bode Aujla of Bode.

Speaking all things accessories, Raul Lopez of LUAR took home the trophy for American Accessory Designer of the Year, and Elena Velez was labelled the must-watch American Emerging Designer of the Year – a creative who the fashion industry will be set to closely follow the journey of.

The night also saw none other than singer-songwriter Lenny Kravitz named as Fashion Icon, presented by actor Bradley Cooper; and SKIMS win the Innovation Award presented by Amazon Fashion, which was accepted by Kim Kardashian, Emma Grede, and Jens Grede.

Highlighting the importance of environmental practices and sustainability within the fashion industry, Amber Valletta presented United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Ms. Amina J. Mohammed, with The United Nations Environmental Sustainability Award.

Whilst the evening celebrated the current fashion landscape, the event also took time to acknowledge the contributions of longstanding brands and designers with the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, which was deservedly won by Laurie Lynn Stark and Richard Stark of Chrome Hearts.

In one of the most emotional moments of the event, Shannon Abloh accepted the Board of Trustees Award on behalf of her late husband, Virgil Abloh, who was known for his outstanding creative work at Louis Vuitton and Off-White.
