MTV in Collaboration with the British Fashion Council, River Island and Iceberg have announced the Music Meets Fashion competition winner as Kingston University student Lucy Saunders. Her winning collection will be revealed during this year’s London Fashion Week on 23rd February at 4pm with an exclusive performance by MTV Push finalist and Ivor nominated music artist Griff.

With gender neutrality, size inclusivity and sustainability in mind, her 8 piece collection includes relaxed silhouettes, playful designs and bold colour palettes and will be debuted during a performance from up and coming artist Griff’s latest release. The emerging Chinese-Jamaican singing sensation has already made the top 5 in the BBC Sound of 2021 poll and been placed amongst the top artists in British Pop music.

The Music Meets Fashion competition was announced during last year’s London Fashion Week. Fashion students across 21 fashion schools were selected through the British Fashion Council Colleges Network in the UK, as well as select international design colleges in the US, Mexico and Australia. The goal was to design a capsule clothing line inspired by the home of the millennial generation pop culture ‘MTV’, celebrating music, fashion and sustainability.

The pro-social platform was set up to help the next generation of young creatives break into the industry, making their design dreams a reality through industry knowledge, tools and experience.

Working with the finalists and Lucy has been an exciting process for us, they have all been dedicated to the project and each of them have created something innovative that has suited River Island’s design ethos of inclusivity for all. This year has thrown a lot at us due to the pandemic, and even with the unexpected obstacles in our way, we have all managed to remain empowered and optimistic throughout; it is so inspiring to see in the emerging talent of today and River Island is incredibly excited to reveal Lucy’s MTV inspired commercial designs

Dominique, Design Director at River Island

Her ready to wear collection will be exclusively available online at River Island, during fashion week from the 19th February, with prices ranging from £18 to £55.
