Ahoy Sailor! This Season’s Nautical Trend Is Not Setting Sail Anytime Soon

Published

Step aside cottagecore, there’s a new trend in town. Now that we are legally allowed to go on a staycation here in the UK, it seems fitting that the countryside trend has been taken over by one that screams “I’m going to the seaside”. So, grab your straw bags and bucket hats, we’re prepping for summer on the British coast.

At the forefront of this trend is JW Anderson’s latest Moncler Genius project titled A Nomadic Voyage. The collection featured fisherman beanies, tough rubber boots and trench coats. Elsewhere, Hedi Slimane’s SS21 Celine collection featured the Breton stripe alongside wellie boots and short shorts, proving that the fashion world is gearing up to tackle those pesky rockpools.

Stripes and linen will be always be in style whether you’re going to the beach or hitting the city streets. Street style favourite Alexa Chung – who is often spotted in a Breton stripe and short shorts – shows that whilst this trend reflects our holiday excitement now, it isn’t one that is likely going to be over before you have a chance to blink.

The nautical trend has serious staying power: linen, structured shorts and big shirts are garments that can be worn again and again and styled in multiple ways.

Try a matching linen shorts and shirt set to really get the “I woke up like this” holiday vibe, and make sure to pack a chunky knit for when that breeze hits. This trend is one that tends to have a strict colour palette, which means you don’t have to worry about colour blocking. Instead, have fun with layering tones of navy, brown, mustard and white, and embrace your inner sailor. Ahoy! Don’t forget your sun cream…
