Say Howdy To Lee’s New Collaboration With Black-Owned Prepwear Brand The Brooklyn Circus

Giddy-up cowboy, we’re heading out to the Wild West with Lee’s latest collaboration with The Brooklyn Circus! The 133-year-old denim and casual apparel brand and Black-owned prep wear brand have teamed up to create a capsule showcasing the connection of craftsmanship, telling stories through style. Drawing from Lee’s workwear and western heritage, the collaboration uses the brand’s archived silhouettes, each updated with the unique vision of The Brooklyn Circus.

Boasting a line-up for both men and women, the capsule highlights pants, tops, Union-Alls, overalls and jackets. The spotlight falls on four standout pieces in the collection, including the classic heritage Cowboy Jacket, and The Brooklyn Circus staple Unisex Varsity Jacket sporting leather, Melton wool and a one-of-a-kind embroidered illustration. Also accompanied by the Cowboy Jeans, inspired by Lee’s 1925 style is refreshed with selvedge denim, custom hardware, and modern aesthetics, whilst the Whizit Bib Overall honours Lee’s history of being the first apparel brand to use zippers in clothing, also crafted from selvedge denim and paying homage to the workers who built America.

Taking inspiration from the history of Black cowboys, Founder and Creative Director of The Brooklyn Circus, Ouigi Theodore helped craft the collection with the significance of Black cultural influence on the West at its heart; he said: “The Brooklyn Circus finds inspiration in the pages of history, so collaborating with a heritage brand like Lee to highlight the history of the Black working west made perfect sense.”

“Power to the people. We aim to tell the story of our community through meaningful partnerships like this one with Lee” - Ouigi Theodore, Founder and Creative Director of The Brooklyn Circus

Detailing the collaboration as an ‘honour’, Lee’s Global Director of Women’s Design, Nicola Mielke said: “We took historically masculine designs, like the WhizIt Overall, and mixed in feminine details to create pieces that align with the collection’s overall vision. Merging the past with the modern or the unexpected is what makes design interesting, which is what this capsule achieves.”

Global Director of Men’s Design, Sedgwick Cole Jr. added: “Lee can tap into different cultures because we were there in real time. Concepting this collaboration was very exciting as we worked to blend western and workwear with urban sophistication while keeping the integrity of each.”

With prices ranging from $110-$385, and the hero Varsity Jacket at $1,200, the capsule is available to shop on both brand’s websites and across select global retailers.
