Love Island Turns To Pre-Loved Fashion As They Partner With eBay UK

Published

This summer of love is hotting up as we prepare for our daily dates with the sofa at 9pm to get the latest from the Spanish Villa. Now less than 2 weeks away until this year’s villa is open for business, Love Island announces their new partnership with online marketplace eBay UK, on a mission to change the way we shop for clothes.

The collaboration comes after research from eBay reveals that UK shoppers are becoming increasingly conscious of fast fashion, with one pre-loved clothing sale on the platform, every second so far in 2022. Hitting refresh on the Love Island wardrobe this Summer, the Islanders will be sporting pre-loved items from a shared wardrobe situated in the new villa – for the first time ever. Known for its usual close ties to fast fashion, this season will make history as we can expect to see Islanders wearing clothing items that reflect their personalities and individuality, all whilst contributing to the extension of clothing life cycles.

To assist this creative initiative, eBay UK has recruited celebrity stylist and secondhand enthusiast, Amy Bannerman, to help style the contestants. Bannerman is known for her styling work on the likes of many famous faces, including Dua Lipa, Rita Ora, Sophie Turner, Lena Dunham and Jonathan Van Ness, so we can expect to see this season oozing style.

Kickstarting the partnership, viewers will get one step closer to the highly-anticipated Love Island experience as they will be able to explore eBay’s Preloved Fashion via the ‘Shop the Show’ tab on the Love Island app – also with access to eBay’s social content directly from the Islanders in the villa.

Chief Marketing Officer at eBay UK, Eve Williams discussed the platform’s excitement over the collaboration and being the show’s first pre-loved fashion partner. With hopes to flip the conversation around fashion, Williams said: “As one of the original homes of pre-loved, we believe that by joining forces with this incredibly influential programme, we’ll inspire the nation to think differently and make more conscious choices when it comes to their wardrobes. Whether that is selling a dress that is sitting at the back of their wardrobe or shopping for their favourite islanders’ second-hand looks – these small changes can make a big difference to driving circularity.”

As a show, we strive to be a more eco-friendly production with more focus on ways in which we can visibly show this on screen.

Mike Spencer, Executive Producer of Love Island

The show’s Executive Producer, Mike Spencer added: “This partnership will see our Islanders get to dive into the shared wardrobes and help themselves to some incredible pre-loved clothes sourced from eBay. We aim to inspire our demographic and show that there are incredible finds to be had and how sharing is, in some small way, caring.”

With searches on eBay for ‘preloved clothes’ increasing over 8 times the amount of previous years and the driving force of Gen Z to make recommence a trend, this season is set to change the game with the show’s wardrobes as we’ve never known them before.

So, who’s ready to dive into another season of our favourite Summer screening and second-hand goods?
