’80s Athleisure Is Back…And No One Is Complaining

Published

Whilst last year’s tennis skirt trend is undeniably still going strong, this year it seems that fashion folk are taking it one step further by embracing every possible aspect of retro sportswear. Inspired by the fitness craze of the 1980’s and those infamous pictures of Princess Diana, fashion is embracing the appeal of sportswear and bringing preppy items into our daily wardrobes.

The trend has made its way into the mainstream by way of sports powerhouses such as Nike and Adidas bringing back some of their retro designs to the public consciousness as well as lifestyle brands such as Lacoste and Sporty and Rich who are championing the preppy aesthetic throughout their designs.

Whilst we are still finding our post-lockdown look and trying to incorporate as much comfort as possible into our daily outfits, the resurgence of preppy athleisure’s oversized sweaters and loose-fitting shorts could not have come at a better time. The trend is chic, comfy, and easy to style. What more could you want from your re-introduction to society? Embrace the preppy look wholeheartedly with a skort, sweatshirt and ribbed socks, or simply pair a collegiate graphic tee with mom jeans for that more casual 80’s vibe. Alternatively, pair an oversized sweatshirt with small shorts and crisp white trainers for the ultimate retro athleisure look. Whichever outfit you opt for, make sure you finish the look by throwing on some dark-rimmed sunnies for that off-duty look.
