The focus on wearable basics and repeatable staple pieces we have seen over recent years has undoubtedly played a part in confirming oversized shirts as a must-have item. Easy to style, comfortable, and often crafted from breathable fabrics such as linen or cotton poplin, the oversized button-down is sure to become as reliable as your favourite white t-shirt. Labels like The Row and Louis Vuitton have fully leaned into the big shirt trend with the former styling theirs over a t-shirt with loose tailored trousers, and the latter opting to style theirs under a sweater vest for a more preppy approach. Elsewhere, Valentino made waves with their bright pink oversized shirt that was paired with a teeny-tiny pair of micro shorts.

If you’re looking to spruce up your outfits with an oversized shirt, it’s definitely worth taking styling cues from these labels and having a play around with layering and different shapes. Some shirts are a lot more oversized than others, and feature both an oversized body and a puffed sleeve, so it’s worth trying a few on and figuring out which shape you feel most comfortable in. The easiest, most pared-back but incredibly cool way to style an oversized shirt is to simply tuck one side of it into the front of your favourite denim shorts for an immediately balanced silhouette. Throw on your big sun hat and some chunky sandals and you’re good to go!
