MONKI Partners with a Foundation Releasing A Limited-Edition Underwear Collection To Raise Awareness. 😍✨💜

Monki partners up for the second time with the Body Dysmorphic Disorder Foundation (BDDF) releasing a limited-edition underwear collection to help continue to raise awareness of body dysmorphic disorder (BDD).

FYI, body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) is a psychological condition where a person becomes obsessed with one or more areas of their physical appearance. The disorder is common among many young girls and women, especially with the influence of social media. Social media is an incredible platform that can be utilised to encourage, promote, and raise awareness, however, it also has a dark side. Platforms are being saturated with a flux of edited and filtered images of unrealistic body goals, which can place young girls and women in a compulsive race with their body image. Back in November 2021, BDDF started a petition directed at the EU Parliament calling for transparency on altered images shared on social media. This pushed for law changes in Norway and France to ensure organisations, companies, and influencers are legally required to state when images have been manipulated for paid content online. But, this is still an ongoing struggle in other countries including the UK.

It is really refreshing to see MONKI and BDDF raising awareness of the disorder and bringing the conversation to the forefront and empowering women who are struggling with it. The campaign features three BDDF volunteers: Kim, Sandeep and Mia who share their personal experiences.

Speaking on the campaign, Brand and Marketing Director at Monki, Simone Van Starkenburg says “We have a responsibility to our community to be as inclusive and transparent as possible when it comes to body and beauty representation.”

The capsule collection includes two purple mesh bras and brief sets, the first has bold positive affirmations on the inside of the underwear (a nice confidence boost) – insanely beautiful, right? The second set features various body illustrations, with one of the brand’s signature prints. It can be hard to practice self-love and care and a set like this is a nice, positive reminder to take care and love yourself. The collection is available now and priced between £8-£15 and you can find more information about BDD and the petition here.
