#IAMWHOLE, Zoella & LUSH launch the first #DigitalDetoxDay

Published

Award-winning mental health campaign #IAMWHOLE and Zoe Sugg founder of “Zoella” have teamed up with LUSH to launch the first Digital Detox Day. The day is designed to reflect offline about how we live our lives online, and to introduce boundaries to our social media usage.

Digital Detox Day will take place on Saturday 5th September 2020. Co-founder of #IAMWHOLE Jordan Stephens, one half of duo Rizzle Kicks, and Zoe Sugg are aiming to raise awareness on the negative effects that come with social media to our mental health.

September 5th is all about encouraging social media users to actively build healthier relationships with their platforms and their everyday devices. There will also be a very special activation that will be revealed on the day.

#IAMWHOLE launched back in 2016 with a music video by Jordan Stephens and a social campaign introducing the emotive circle drawn on the palm of the hand, which went viral. Numerous celebrities got involved with the campaign such as Ed Sheeran, James Corden and Liam Gallagher.

Jordan Stephens is so passionate about the new angle for the first digital campaign as he recognises social media has become such a huge part of peoples lives.

I know all too well the negative impacts it (social media) can have on mental health if we don’t set boundaries. Digital Detox Day is all about taking some time out to reflect, so we can form better relationships with ourselves and our devices.

Jordan is also excited and proud to be able to partner with Zoe, “she is the perfect person to lead this campaign after really growing up online”.

The pair aim to raise awareness as well as funds for grassroots mental health charities. One way they are doing this is with Zoe’s collaboration with LUSH to create a bath bomb which money raised will go into a fund, where grants will be available for the global grassroots mental health organisations.

Living in Brighton for many years and enjoying the beach, Zoe Sugg made her limited edition bath bomb to encapsulate her happy place of a beachside sunset in the bath. LUSH have confirmed that 40+ of their worldwide locations will be participating in Digital Detox Day. From these countries, 19 of them will be selling the bath bomb called IRL for £5.95. The bath bomb launched on Saturday 29th August.

The fragrance of the bath bomb is a new blend, which uses mood enhancing oils. The oils include: neroli oil orange flower absolute, ylang ylang oil and rose absolute. Neroli is a fragrance known to be very beneficial for sleeplessness and anxiety, something Zoe has spoken very openly about online. These oils will also work to help soothe and relax you, which we all could do with alongside our break from social media so you can really switch off.

Zoe describes being able to work with LUSH as an “absolute privilege” as she has been a huge fan of the brand for many years. She is so happy to be working with them and #IAMWHOLE to raise awareness of the negative impacts, such as comparison, criticism, cyberbullying, a disconnect from reality and real life.

I love social media it’s incredible in so many ways by helping build communities and business but has also given people a platform to share stories. However, as the years have progressed and social media has grown in size, it’s clear that it has its flaws too.

The week leading up to Digital Detox Day, #IAMWHOLE will be releasing a series of discussion panels around five key talking points: Body Image, Cyberbullying, Anxiety, Human Connection and Setting Digital Boundaries. These will be available on Zoe’s IGTV channel.

Members of the public are also encouraged to draw a circle on the palm of their hand with the word “OFF” on Friday 4th September. This is to signify they will be switching off from social media.

You can also join Jack Constantine, Lush product inventor, on Friday 11th September on Instagram Live over on @IAmWholeUk, where he will be talking through the creation process and benefits to the new IRL bath bomb in more detail.

Can you step away from social media for one whole day to take time out for yourself?
