Cannes Film Festival 2022: From Disney Princess to Disco Ball, This Red Carpet Had It All!

Cannes Film Festival is the ultimate rendezvous for appreciating the art of film, but we also can’t help but appreciate the event as a playground for designers to dress celebrities and actors straight from our screens in standout high-fashion pieces. Here at FROW, we have the low-down on the best runway-worthy looks straight from the Cannes Red Carpet!

Jasmine Tookes & Viola Davis:

Yellow appeared to be the unspoken theme this year, with Jas Tookes and Viola Davis taking to the Cannes Carpet in stunning canary yellow dresses. Viola Davis, who was honoured with the Cannes 2022 Women in Motion award, looked radiant in her ruffled Alexander McQueen gown. This bright and vibrant statement complimented the actress’s already bold fashion sense, detailed with a large ruffle draping off the shoulder, puff sleeve accents and floor-length pleats that made this an unforgettable opening night outfit.

Jasmine Tookes looked every bit a supermodel as she took to the carpet in her abstract dress. Designed by Tony Ward Couture, features saw a large fan silhouette and diamante embellishments, bringing a touch of glamour and sparkle to the gown. Jasmine had all eyes, and lenses, trained on her as she walked across the carpet and into the screening. An unmissable look for the Cannes Festival 2022.

Julianne Moore & Adriana Lima:

Alternatively, some celebs decided to keep it more muted and neutral for the festival, with Julianne Moore opting for a more classic look and Adriana Lima turning heads and taking inspiration from maternity fashion icon Rihanna for her Cannes Carpet look.

Never one to miss the opportunity to make the “best-dressed” list at Red Carpet events; Julianne Moore took to the carpet in a long, plunge-neck, black satin ballgown that oozed sophistication and complemented by a statement diamond necklace accented with emeralds. The drop waist and dramatic skirt pleating further elevated the look and made it one of the more understated, but memorable, ensembles of the night.

Supermodel Adriana Lima seemed to have raided Rihanna’s wardrobe for her Cannes Festival look, showing off her growing bump in a cut-out gothic black dress that elegantly draped around her and completed with an abstract silhouette padded shoulder. Adriana kept the rest of her look simple by straightening her long locks and sweeping them back, also keeping accessories minimal. Lima let the chic dress do all the talking, and it stole the show -we are here for this magnificent maternity moment!

Lashana Lynch & Eva Longoria:

Lashana Lynch served in a sleek Fendi floor-length dress adorned with ivory lace. The high neck dress featured some sheer panelling and thigh-high leg splits on either side of her gown, giving all things powerful woman as the actress took to the red carpet, dazzling spectators and paparazzi with her sultry and sexy ensemble.

Eva Longoria arguably stole the show in her black mesh dress, a trend which we’re seeing frequently after Kendall Jenner’s Met Gala afterparty lingerie look just two weeks ago. Longoria modelled the Alberta Ferretti chiffon gown from the Autumn/Winter 2022 collection, decorated with ruffles and embroidered with black sequins and diamantés that took the provocative look to the next level. Eva kept all her accessories simple, with the finishing touch of a statement black choker – certifiably making her one of the best-dressed celebs of the night!

Elle Fanning & Katherine Langford:

Bringing all things Disney princess to the red carpet, actress Elle Fanning served us a seriously enchanting look in a fairy-tale custom Armani Privé gown. The elegant dress captured a soft baby pink thick tulle skirt and embroidered corset bodice, but Fanning let the dress do to talking with her accessories as she confessed to feeling “100% herself” at the festival in her gown. We can only imagine that ‘The Great’ actress took cues from her role as Catherine to help her model the ‘royally’ gorgeous dress!

Alternatively, Katherine Langford was unmissable (quite literally) on the red carpet as she sparkled in her bold silver Prada dress. Katherine’s glittery gown featured a v-neck neckline, a thigh-high leg split and a large statement bow at the back; not everyone could have carried off a dress as lively as this, but Katherine Langford took to the red carpet and proved that this dress was definitely made for her!

Helly Shah & Amandine Petit:

Bringing yet another Disney Princess look to the red carpet, Helly Shah channelled Queen Elsa in her French Riviera debut! The powder blue gown featured a long sequinned cape that draped down from the padded shoulders of the dress and trailed behind, with a leg split and dramatic v-neck bodice. This year’s Cannes Film Festival has been a memorable one as Bollywood actresses took to the carpet in an array of gorgeous gowns, with Helly’s being no exception. This gown will no doubt go down in Cannes Festival fashion history!

French model, Amandine Petit served one of the more risqué looks of the night, turning up in a duck egg blue see-through dress. Despite the gown leaving little to the imagination, Amandine took an effortlessly stylish and tasteful route for the look. The bodice was panelled, with crimped tulle crossed over the front, wrapping around her shoulder and neck before falling into a graceful train that trailed behind her dress.
